CSA Preface<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is the first edition of CSA ISO 8100-20, Lifts for the transport of persons and goods \u2013 Part 20: Global essential safety requirements (GESRs)<\/em>, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard ISO 8100-20 (first edition, 2018-08). It replaces CAN\/CSA-ISO 22559-1:16 (adopted ISO 22559-1:2014), Safety requirements for lifts (elevators) \u2014 Part 1: Global essential safety requirements (GESRs). At the time of publication, ISO 8100-20:2018 is available from ISO in English only. CSA Group will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO.<\/p>\n

This standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

This document<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2014 specifies GESRs for lifts (elevators), their components and functions, and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2014 establishes a system and provides methods for minimizing safety risks that can arise in the course of, the operation and use of, or work on, lifts (elevators).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 1 Hereinafter, the term lift is used instead of the term elevator.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 2 See Clause 5 regarding the use and application of this document.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This document is applicable to lifts that are intended to carry persons or persons and goods that can:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

a) be located in any permanent and fixed structure or building, except lifts located in means of transport, (e.g. ships);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

b) have any<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1) rated load, size of load carrying unit and speed, and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

2) travel distance and number of landings;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

c) be affected by fire in the load-carrying unit (LCU), earthquake, weather, or flood;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

d) be foreseeably misused (e.g. overloaded) but not vandalized.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This document does not cover<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

a) all needs of users with disabilities;1) or<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

b) risks arising from<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1) work on lifts under construction, testing, or during alterations and dismantling;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

2) use of lifts for fire fighting and emergency evacuation;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

3) vandalism; and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
