The application of the standard helps to improve the indoor air quality in schools. It provides concrete requirements and instructions for implementation, and a guidance for architects and planners. It provides guidance on planning and operation of ventilation systems in schools with the aim of complying with the requirements specified in VDI 6040 Part 1. Information on non-mechanical ventilation as well as for mechanical ventilation is given. Described solutions are to be considered as examples, and do not release designers and operators of the responsibility to develop an optimal solution for individual cases.
