Preface

This is the first edition of CSA C867.1, Performance of torchieres.

This Standard specifies minimum torchiere performance requirements for

(a) evaluating power consumption;

(b) power factor;

(c) current crest factor;

(d) electromagnetic interference;

(e) transient protection;

(f) lamp and lampholder compatibility; and

(g) safety.

Scope

1.1

This Standard specifies performance requirements for torchieres that use non-screw-in (Edison type) lamp bases and are intended primarily for residential use.

1.2

Although this Standard largely deals with fluorescent technology, it is not intended to exclude other innovative lighting technologies, e.g., light-emitting diode (LED) or high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting, provided that they meet or exceed the performance requirements of this Standard.

1.3

In CSA Standards, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and can is used to express possibility or capability.
